Family: Euphorbiaceae Scientific Name: Codiaeum variegatum Common Name: Croton, Sun-spot Croton Height/Spread: Height: 3 to 6 feet Spread: 2 to 5 feet Sun: Bright Light Water: Medium Foliage Description and Texture: Croton has strikingly colorful foliage. The leaves are glossy, leathery, and smoothed-edged. Colors range from yellow, pink, orange, red, bronze, purple and green plus combinations of patterns including: blotching and striping. Leaves are oval to lanceolate. Flower Description and Time of Bloom: Seasonal bloomer, Not Relevant Cultural Requirements—Preferences: Croton prefers to be planted in a well-drained, humusy soil. The leaves will produce the best color in bright light, if placed in to much shade the plant will lose leaves. Croton prefers higher humitiy and to be watered regularly to keep soils moist, but not wet. Interesting Information/Problems: No major problems, just watch out for scale, spider mites and mealybugs.
